Hadi siz de bir gencin elinden tutun 👍🏻 köşem @yeniasircomtr de 🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺 Yeme içme sektörüne günümüz adıyla gastronomiye olan ilgimi biliyorsunuz. Bugünün turizminde amiral gemisi olan gastronomide İzmir, her ne kadar bir atılım içinde görünsede, gerek Türkiye gerek küresel ölçekte bu atılım, minik bir adımdan öteye henüz gidemedi. Ama yerimizde de saymıyoruz. Unutulan lezzetlerimizi bir bir ortaya çıkarıyoruz. İnanıyorum ki bu girişimler, ağır ilerleyen İzmir'i sağlam bir zemine oturtacak. İşte bu girişimlerden bir tanesini de her ne hikmetse yine bir kadın gerçekleştirdi. Cinsiyet ayrımı yapmıyorum ama gastronomi turizminde kadınların çok önde olduğu da açık bir gerçek. Kuruluş hikayesi tamamen bir 'başarı' olan Bornova'daki Buenas, atmosferiyle İzmir'deki en güzel restoranlardan biri. I’m a lover of movies. And like most woke white women who are also lovers of movies, I can often be found pointing out all the unforgivable sexist / racist / classist / fat-shamey / tropes in everyone’s favorite old movies.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I’m eternally obsessing over what to do with a classic, well-loved movie that’s ALSO full of harmful stereotypes and fucked up messaging.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Do we cancel it? Pretend it never existed? Wave away the harmful messages by claiming “it was a different time?”⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Maybe. But that approach has always seemed a bit dodgy to me. What a convenient way to squirm out of the responsibility we have to dismantle our privileges and examine the ways in which we’ve been complicit! Blaming the bad actors* just means we get to ignore the systems that created them.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ (*I was gonna say no pun intended there, but you know what? I meant that shit.)⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Also, our movies are a reflection of our culture. And our culture is deeply rooted in patriarchy, oppression, and white supremacy. I'm not gonna lie, the last 4 months of 2019 have been a special type of hell pour moi. Trapped amidst the promises I made myself earlier during the year and the reality of my flailing health and tumultuous life, I have seesawed between extremes. . I've spent months cooped at home, working my butt off. I've burnt that proverbial midnight oil and spent way too much time at my writing desk to be a sane person. I have picked up the dead weight of my broken heart-body-mind-everything, plonked it on the only chair at home that's alright for my back, and cried myself into discipline (yes, I literally cried, discipline can be excruciating for some of us!). I've worked twice, thrice, four times as hard during some weeks to afford myself breathing room on my homestretch. And even when the end is near on some fronts, when I can smell and taste some of the fruits of my labour, I know that it's only a new, more challenging beginning. . I've also spent months running around town, away from everything that's hurting, willing to meet any human who will distract me for just 30 minutes straight. I have chosen to not sit with my pain or my truth for weeks in a row. I've acted from spaces that I consider less than who I am. I've lost sight of myself and my worth over and over and over again, just like that, blindsided. And I do the work, the previous para is proof that I expunge my soul to do the work. But it happened anyway. . I try hard to lead a conscious life. It doesn't mean I always make the best choices. It doesn't mean that I know what I learn from all my bad choices immediately. It doesn't mean that I even necessarily know which the bad choices were. Sometimes it's the analysing, and sometimes it's the living. But I'm here now with 2 weeks left in this decade. Some of my wildest dreams are within reach and some of my oldest wounds still haven't scarred. I'm so blessed and also, so broken. And if you asked me how I was doing on this seesaw, the only thing I could tell you is that I'm okay. Because it's the only thing I am right now. Just about okay.
